Mitzy D. Flores, PhDc, MSN, RN, AHN-BC, CHSE, COI
Mitzy D. Flores is Executive Director of Simulation and Experiential Learning at the University of South Florida. Her leadership extends to both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, and expands to its three sister campuses. Her clinical background includes nurse supervisor of acute care clinics and other out-patient community clinic settings.
Mitzy practices and is certified as an Advanced Holistic Nurse, AHN-BC, and is an alumni of Theorist Dr. Jean Watson, School of Caring Sciences. As such she is certified and practices as a Caritas Coach. Additionally, she is certified as an End-of-Life Educator, and End of Life Doula, via the Conscious Dying Institute.
Her leadership experiences in the clinical setting serve as a strong foundation for her leadership abilities in program development at the local, national, and international level. As a previous Director of Continuing Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, she is no stranger to interprofessional and collaborative healthcare initiatives. The use of experiential and simulation learning has been at the forefront of Mitzy’s teaching philosophy when enhancing nursing education. As a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), experienced debriefer, and expert simulation case writer, she has been instrumental to various simulation centers wanting to broaden their horizons.
On her down time, she loves to explore and play in nature. Her adult children are attending grad school in multiple states across the Pacific Northwest.
